A Special Celebration: Sue and Mark’s Civil Partnership at Inspire Neurocare

This month, love was in the air at Inspire Neurocare Worcester as we celebrated an incredibly special occasion—Sue and Mark's civil partnership.

Mark, who lives with Huntington’s disease and has been a resident at our service since mid 2022, formalised his partnership with Sue on 5th March, followed by a joyful celebration on 12th March.

Sue kindly shared their love story: "Mark and I met at a hen do in Bath in 1996. Within a month, our adventure together began in Cyprus, and from that moment on, we've never looked back. Our life together has been one big adventure—we've skied, cycled, ridden horses in countless beautiful countries, and spent many wonderful years surfing, bodyboarding, and camping in Croyde."

The couple’s mutual love of outdoor life and animals brought them together. “We loved living and walking on the Malvern Hills, and we travelled extensively across this country, always with our beloved Old English dog, Sully, by our side. Our lives changed dramatically when we began living with Huntington’s disease—but it hasn't stopped us living our best lives, with a little help from different people along the way.”

Organising such a meaningful event required careful planning and a warm heart, and Wellbeing Lead Dawn Adams was the perfect choice to make the arrangements - including decorating the service so beautifully. Dawn said;

“Planning this event was about celebrating Sue and Mark’s story and making both days truly special. For the celebration on 12 March, we hosted 20 guests. Our brilliant kitchen team prepared bagels and delicious bacon and sausage sandwiches, served alongside refreshing glasses of Buck’s Fizz and non-alcoholic versions too. The whole team pulled together to ensure everything was just right, and it was a beautiful day.”

General Manager Richard Hier was equally enthusiastic, highlighting the importance of such events within the service. He said:

“Both celebrations were absolutely fantastic. At Inspire Neurocare, it’s vital we enable the people we support to live their life as they choose, even as they receive specialised care. Moments like these reinforce the importance of supporting our residents’ choices and celebrating their personal milestones with dignity and joy.”

The day brought smiles, tears, and joy to everyone involved. At Inspire, we aim to empower individuals living with complex neurological conditions to experience meaningful and fulfilling lives, every day.

Congratulations to Sue and Mark—here's to you both!
